Guru Bhola Nath Music Utsav 2024: A Celebration of Legacy and Artistry
New Delhi recently witnessed a remarkable two-day musical journey at the Kamani Auditorium on October 6-7, 2024, as the Guru Bhola Nath Music Utsav took center stage. Curated by internationally acclaimed flautist Ajay Prasanna, this annual festival paid tribute to the legendary bansuri master Pandit Bhola Nath Prasanna, celebrating the enduring legacy of Indian classical music and the timeless Guru-Shishya Parampara.
Day 1: The Magic of the Bansuri and Vocal Mastery
The festival’s opening day featured a mesmerizing performance by the iconic Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia. Renowned worldwide for his mastery of the bansuri, Chaurasia was accompanied by Debopriya Chatterji and Suchismita Acharya on flute, along with Pandit Ram Kumar Mishra on tabla. The evening also presented a soul-stirring vocal recital by the celebrated duo Pandit Ritesh-Rajnish Mishra, supported by Pandit Shailendra Mishra on tabla and Sumit Mishra on harmonium.
These performances highlighted the festival’s dedication to preserving the essence of traditional Indian classical music while nurturing the next generation of musicians.
Day 2: Strings, Voices, and Bansuris Unite
The second day brought an equally impressive lineup, showcasing the virtuosity of Padma Bhushan Dr. N. Rajam on violin, accompanied by her disciple Vidushi Nandini Shankar. Together with Pandit Abhishek Mishra on tabla, they delivered a stunning collaboration.
The audience was also treated to a powerful vocal performance by the legendary Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal, supported by Pandit Aneesh Pradhan on tabla, Ustad Murad Ali on sarangi, and Pandit Vinay Mishra on harmonium.
Ajay Prasanna himself took to the stage with his own flute recital, paying homage to the rich musical legacy of his father, Pandit Bhola Nath Prasanna.
