“Aawaran” Solo Show of Paintings by contemporary artist Sonu Gupta

“Aawaran” is not merely about outer appearances — it symbolizes the inner depths where emotions, experiences, and truths often remain buried beneath layers of fear, denial, and social conditioning. This series is a search for that sacred moment when art ceases to be just a visual expression and transforms into a mirror of the soul, reflecting our truest essence.
Every human being is wrapped in countless layers — the exhaustion behind a smile, the fear beneath love, the gentle lie resting over truth, and the unspoken words hidden under waves of emotion. These layers — these aawaran — teach us how to live within society, how to protect ourselves, yet slowly, they pull us away from our own reality.
In our pursuit of acceptance, we often lose sight of who we truly are,
drifting into a world of faces that perhaps are no longer ours.
Sonu Gupta’s art series, “Aawaran,” is an inner journey — an attempt to recognize, understand, and gradually peel away these veils. It is not an outward exploration, but a descent into the self — to see and feel those emotions we often choose to ignore.
Each line, each color, each form becomes a question: Who are we, when all our layers fall away? Sometimes this search is painful, sometimes it brings peace; for when the veils dissolve, the soul is not left bare — it reveals itself in its purest and most beautiful form.
