Nanda Pathak: Painting India’s Cultural Memories in Colour

Mumbai-based visual artist Nanda Pathak, a BFA graduate from Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai, has steadily carved a distinctive space for herself through expressive compositions rooted in Indian culture, tradition and everyday life. Trained formally in drawing and composition, with a strong foundation in colour, form and visual expression, Pathak approaches art as a bridge between memory, emotion and cultural heritage.

Working across acrylic, oil, watercolour and charcoal, she explores figurative compositions, landscapes, rural scenes, women in traditional attire, folk culture and nature. Her paintings are particularly recognised for their vibrant colours, graceful compositions and rich visual narratives. The influence of Rajasthan, its vivid palette and cultural traditions, can often be felt in her work, alongside inspirations drawn from India’s ghats, villages and natural landscapes.

Pathak’s artistic journey has been marked by consistent participation in exhibitions across India. Her notable showcases include the India Art Festival, exhibitions at Nehru Centre, Worli, Jehangir Art Gallery, Simroza Art Gallery and the World Trade Centre, Mumbai. Her recent participation in Kala Samvad’s Taj-04 Group Art Exhibition in 2026 further added to her growing exhibition profile.

Her achievements include the Emerging Artist Award – Art Chitrakala, the Diamond Achievers Award for International Women Artist Achievers (2021) and the Kala Award – Power of Women by Manikarnika (2025).

Through her evolving body of work, Nanda Pathak continues to celebrate the grace, resilience and simplicity of Indian life, preserving cultural memories through colour, texture and emotional storytelling.
