Smitaa V Jain’s Solo Exhibition at Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi
Artist Smitaa V Jain presents Elsewhere: Cities That I Carry With Me, a solo exhibition exploring the intimate relationship between architecture, memory, place and personal experience. The exhibition will be held from 25 October to 4 November 2026 at Triveni Gallery, Triveni Kala Sangam, New Delhi. The exhibition is presented by Elke & Bose.
Smitaa’s artistic practice is rooted in her fascination with built environments and the emotional histories they hold. From ancestral havelis and historic monuments to contemporary cityscapes, her paintings transform streets, facades, terraces and architectural fragments into layered visual memories. Through abstraction, colour, texture, light and fragmented forms, she creates spaces that move beyond literal representation, inviting viewers to connect them with their own experiences and memories.
A professionally trained artist and Gold Medallist in Textile Design from South Delhi Polytechnic, Smitaa has been an independent practicing artist since 2005. Her work has been exhibited extensively across India and internationally, including Dubai, Busan, Russia, Singapore and New York. Her solo exhibitions include presentations at Uchaan Art Gallery, Hotel Leela Kempenski and Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre.
Elsewhere continues artist’s ongoing exploration of how places shape identity and how memories transform the places we carry within us. Each painting becomes both a journey through a city and a journey back into her personal past, where the visible meets the remembered, imagined and unseen.
Finally, in the words of Lalit Suri (Elke & Bose), the presenters of the show- Here, there, somewhere beyond, or simply elsewhere! The cities that Smitaa carries are built of memories and impressions, born out of her imagination and experiences, carved by her knife and made resplendent by her brush. They possess the alluring quality of a fairy tale a world at once familiar yet fantastical. And this world quite simply could be or is- Smitaa’s own Wonderland.
